Through nurture and nature we learn and play
Stoke Gabriel Pre-school offers term time child care for children aged two to five years old. We are located at the heart of Stoke Gabriel, an attractive village right on the banks of the River Dart.
We are based in the bright and historic Old School Room and have direct access to a brand new play area in the village orchard, just opposite, which we use daily. Our village setting allows us to take full advantage of its natural beauty. We often make the great outdoors our place of play – using the orchard, the mill pond and the forest regularly.
All our staff are highly qualified and have decades of experience
We are backed up by an active committee that oversees the pre-school as a not-for-profit charity, registered with the Charities Commission.
We are members of the Pre-school Learning Alliance and have a Constitution that governs our procedures. We also follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. The pre-school is supported by Devon County Council and regulated by Ofsted.

Approach to Learning
Our ethos here at Stoke Gabriel Pre-school is based on an understanding of your child’s interests and needs and what makes them unique. Because our setting is relatively small (a maximum of 17 per session) it is easy for us to foster a family feel where each individual child is nurtured, cared for and feels safe. We really believe that this is the foundation for a life-long love of learning – with plenty of fun, time outdoors and learning through play.
Each half term sees in a new theme at Stoke Gabriel Pre-school. This could be anything from ‘Space’ to ‘Jungle’ or ‘Healthy Eating’. It’s a great way to get the children and staff excited about learning and usually ends up in some serious craft activity to deck out our room!
Keeping you up to date
We use an online learning journey called Tapestry to keep parents up to date on children’s learning. It’s also a lovely memento of your child’s time with us at pre-school.
As a parent you will receive regular updates on the activities and themes planned. This will give you plenty of opportunity to get involved!
If you’d like to know more about us, please get in touch and we’d be delighted to meet you.
