Stoke Gabriel Pre-School Meeting

20th July 2004

Present:       Luke Peakman, Julie Goodhall, Thomas Goodhall, Claire Turner, Sarah Bromige, Kyrie Edwards

The meeting has been called to discuss the resignation of Janet Eddy.  Sadly, after a number of great years for the pre-school, culminating in our glowing OFSTED last term, we will be losing our beloved supervisor.

We now have a need to find a replacement and as quickly as possible.  Legally we must advertise this position to the general public.  It is known that it is very expensive for one advertisement for one day in the Totnes Times and the Herald Express.  We therefore decided initially to advertise in the Job Centre and on the zero14 website.

The advertisement that we have placed is as follows:

Stoke Gabriel Pre-School is seeking a team leader to work in this well established and progressive pre-school that “educates children to a very high standard” according to a recent OFSTED report.  The role requires at least an NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent in childcare and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.  The person will be enthusiastic, personable and good at planning with creative ideas to take the pre-school forward.

Contact in the first instance Janet Eddy on (01803) 523151

The need for the NVQ level 3 qualification is because without it or equivalent our insurance policy is invalid.  Janet currently gets paid for 25 hours work per week, which includes the 21 hours pre-school is open each week and 4 hours planning time.  We will be giving the successful candidate a 1 term probationary period.

The closing date for applications is set as the 6th of August through this method and interviews will take place in the following week with the intention of having the post filled by, or as near to the beginning of term as possible.  Depending on the number and quality of applicants the advertisement may need to be placed in the newspapers and the word spread a little further.  We will review progress after a week to see whether we are getting good applications and to decide how to proceed.

In the meantime if we are unable to have employed a supervisor by the time term starts then we will be hoping that Sarah will be able to assume this role.  Due to Sarah’s qualifications our insurance will be valid and the pre-school will be in safe hands.  The committee hopes that Sarah will be applying for the permanent job of pre-school supervisor.  Rachel is hoping to be back with us for the start of term and we will be asking Carolyn whether she will be able to help us out and work the full 21 hours per week again.

Offers of additional help if needed come gratefully received from Naomi Lebaillley, Sarah Bromige, Kyrie Edwards,  Claire Turner and Helen Dyke.

An additional event of some considerable note that occurred at this meeting was that Thomas Goodall has been nominated as pre-school treasurer by Claire Turner and this was seconded by Kyrie Edwards making Thomas our official pre-school treasurer.  Welcome aboard Thomas.  [Note: this event had been postponed by the sad fact that at recent meetings turn-out has been too low to provide the minimum number of people present to undergo the official “voting on” ceremony.
