Stoke Gabriel Pre-School Meeting
24th February 2005
Present: Helen Tattersell, Luke Peakman, Julie Goodall, Thomas Goodall, Carolyn Sharp, Sarah Toon, Sue Stacy, David Stacy
Apologies: Claire Turner, Jo Sedgeman
Matters Arising
The PLA representative did not attend due to the fact that the crisis has been averted and we now have a new chair.
We have made it through the recent spate of staff illness. An official thank you goes out to all those who gave staff cover and helped us through this difficult time. An extra special thank you goes to Sarah who soldiered on despite her own illnesses and kept the pre-school open.
We would like to officially welcome all our new arrivals, the children and their parents, to the pre-school, namely: Kyle, Lucy, Matthew, Parents – the pre-school welcomes all new parents and we would like to say that we encourage parent involvement in the pre-school as it is run solely by us. Meetings will be advertised to let you know when to come along.
Apparently we also have lots more new arrivals on the way.
We made £240 from the Christmas Bazaar so well done to all for making the event so successful and financially rewarding.
Staffing
Contracts will be completed for all staff this week ready to sign.
The annual staff reviews were carried out this term and were deemed useful by all involved.
Rachel is on maternity leave from the May half-term, and from now she will no longer be in on a Thursday morning. We need to replace her on Thursdays from now and for all sessions as of May half-term. The replacement on Thursdays will be on an official and paid terms and ideally the person who does this cover will be the one who does the maternity cover. We will advertise the position in the Job Centre, the Zero14 website and advertise around the village, in shops and in the Stoke Gabriel News.
It was suggested that the pre-school could maybe have a student/trainee pre-school worker. This idea needs to be agreed with Sarah and Kate as it will involve quite a bit of input from them and there are of course pros and cons. If it is agreed that it is a workable idea then Dartington College, Torquay Tech and Paignton College can be approached.
Sue Price will be helping out during some sessions of pre-school.
Curriculum Development
Pre-school now has a computer up and running, but we do need some suitable software. Any loans of software will be much needed and gratefully received. Totnes School of Dance teachers are still doing lessons at pre-school. Scrapbooks of the children’s artwork are now being put together so that parents can have all their children’s work at the end of their time at pre-school. Diaries for the two-and-a-half year olds are kept by staff for parents to see what their child has been doing during the day at pre-school. Parents are welcome to take the diaries home and write comments back but they must be brought back for each session.
Officer Updates
Treasurer Financially pre-school is fine and currently breaking even. We have received £50 from Stoke Gabriel Art Group and we would like to thank them very much for this very kind gift. Thomas now has a letter detailing how the fees are calculated.
Health and Safety We should have a rota for washing the aprons. Sue will post one up. We will be getting rid of the towels for drying the children’s hands and getting paper towels. The leaking water pipe is very soon to be fixed. Norman has it in hand. With agreement from the PCC we will shortly be fixing smoke alarms throughout the school rooms.
Fundraising We have received £46 from the pantomime raffle. Thank you to all parents who contributed the cash for the prizes. David Stacy and Chris Dunn will hopefully be arranging a summer fundraising event. The pre-school will be supporting the Comic Relief Red Nose Day fund and possibly an event will be arranged next week. We may be having an Easter Bonnet Parade/Afternoon Tea event, details are yet to be finalised.
Refurbishment Update
Builders are now being approached to give us a detailed break down of costs. Once we have agreed the final plans with the PCC we can proceed to try and get the funding. Once we have the funding then the builders can be booked in to do the work during school holidays.
AGM
The AGM is booked in for: Wednesday the 13th of April At the V and A We would like to encourage all the parents to come along. We are always looking for more committee members. The pre-school is run by the parents and needs everyone to do a little bit in order to get by. Julie is stepping down as the Fundraising Coordinator so this position will need to be filled. If you think that you might be able to do this role then please tell Sarah, Kate or Helen. A poster will soon go up allowing people to sign up for various roles that they would be prepared to have a go at. Fundraising Coordinator should be at least a two person job.
AOB
Sarah will now be Milk Monitor. It may be a possibility that we could run for another session. This was thought to be a good idea and it will be followed up. Sarah may well be starting up an After School Club. If you think that this might be useful to you or your friends then get in touch with her as it might spur her on to go for it. Also she is thinking of continuing the Summer Club this year. |
