Suzanne Payne – Manager
I am very passionate about my role as Manager of Stoke Gabriel Pre-School. I thrive on ensuring that when a child walks into the Pre-School room they think “‘Wow’, what shall I do first?” I am always thinking about the way we deliver the Early Years Curriculum – and how we could improve them – to suit the needs and interests of all the children that come to Stoke Gabriel Pre-School.
My belief is that a young child should have time to play, be themselves and develop their own interest in a fun learning environment. They should learn through being happy, having fun, exploring the natural environment and most importantly being loved. I believe every child that comes to Stoke Gabriel Pre-School leaves knowing that they have been loved for being themselves and I am sure will always have fond memories of their time spent with us.
I have completed a Level 3 NVQ in Early Years education and childcare, Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification, as well as completing a Level 5 Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning.
I worked as a Pre-School Assistant at Stoke Gabriel Pre-School some 15 years ago when my children were young, before moving onto working as a Learning Support Assistant to a child with Downs Syndrome at a local mainstream primary school. During this time I gained a love for working with children with Special Education Needs, and developed many skills in supporting children with speech and language difficulties as well as physical needs. When it was agreed for the child I was supporting to move school, I decided I would like to return to work in Early Years and ended up back at Stoke Gabriel as Manager!
I feel very privileged to work in such a unique pre-school environment. Being able to spend a day in the woods on the edge of the River Dart is quite special, as well as having many opportunities for going for walks along the River Dart, going to see the local Alpacas or just playing with the children in the Orchard. I don’t believe children could have a better place to grow up.
Away from work, I enjoy playing hockey and spending time with my husband, family and friends, going on walks, camping and relaxing. I have two children, one who works in Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the other at Durham University, so times when we are all together are very precious to me.
I have been involved with Stoke Gabriel Pre-School for over 13 years, initially as a parent and committee member then for the last 10 years as a member of staff. I am a primary teacher with a BEd.Hons and have more recently qualified at Level 3 in Early Years education. I work as the deputy manager and setting SENDco and feel extremely privileged to do a job I love in such a unique setting.
I have completed a two-year apprenticeship with Stoke Gabriel Pre-school gaining a level 3 qualification in child education. I have enjoyed learning about how children develop through their play from activities within the pre-school. I have received great support from the staff who have helped me extend my knowledge greatly. I am now continuing my learning and going on to do a degree in Early Years Care and Education at South Devon College, alongside working at Stoke Gabriel pre-school. Outside of pre-school I enjoy meeting up with my friends, going shopping and spending time with my family.
I am a qualified level 3 practitioner, I have an interest in physical development and have been on courses to support this. I really enjoy watching the children grow in their time at the setting and getting them ready for school. I love anything Disney and spending quality time with my family.
I’m a level 3 qualified practitioner. Stoke Gabriel is a beautiful place to live and work and I am lucky enough to do both. Away from work I am a mum to my lovely son. We enjoy picnics, walks, the beach and camping at various festivals through the summer.
