Lost Child Procedure
In the unlikely event of a child going missing during the pre-school session,
the following procedure must be followed:
- Inform the Supervisor.
- The Supervisor gathers all the children together and marks those present
against the register.
- The Deputy Supervisor checks the toilet and mezzanine areas within the
Old School Room.
- The assistant checks the Orchard and the area immediately outside the
Old School Room.
- Should the child not be located, then the Supervisor will contact the
police and the parents/carers of the child and a Committee member (usually the
chair) while the Deputy Supervisor makes their way through the Orchard down to
the millpond to check the area by the water as this presents a high risk.
- As soon as the police arrive, Pre-school staff will work under their
direction, remembering that appropriate supervision must be available for the
other children. The Supervisor and Chair, in consultation with the police, will
decide if it is appropriate to request that other children are picked up by
parents as soon as possible.
- A report should be written up as soon as possible after the event and a
copy sent to Ofsted with an action plan. The incident will be recorded in the
incident book.
