Staff and Employment Policy

A high adult to child ratio is essential in providing good quality pre-school care. In our pre-school:

  • We have at least one member of staff to each eight children over the age of 3 and one member of staff to each four children under the age of 3.
  • We have 3 members of staff17 children per sessions and never more than 4 children aged between 2½ and 3.
  • Our key worker system provides the children specific support and interest during identified times of need.
  • Regular staff meetings provide opportunities for staff to undertake curriculum planning and to discuss the children's interest, progress and/or difficulties.
  • We offer an equal opportunities employment policy and will offer jobs equally to both men and women, with and without disabilities, from all religious, social, ethnic and cultural groups.
  • At least half of our staff holds an N.V.Q. level 3 in child care, or equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant in-service training is available to all staff, both paid and volunteer members.
  • Our pre-school's budget includes an allocation towards training costs.
  • We support the work of our staff by means of regular monitoring/appraisals.
  • We are committed to recruiting, appointing and employing staff in accordance with all relevant legislation.
